News release from the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society:

Santa Train returns with upgraded ticketing, new date and times

The annual tradition continues with the 2015 Santa Train at the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society this holiday season.

Attracting over 3,500 passengers each year, the 20 minute rides aboard the Santa Trains will operate on December 5th, 12th, and 19th this year with special 45-minute long Santa Charters for families and large groups operating on December 6th, 13th, and 20th. Ticket sales begin Wednesday, November 18th at 6PM at fortwaynerailroad.org.

For the second year in a row, the Society is offering customers the option to purchase tickets online with enhanced online ticketing and reduced wait times. In 2014, tickets sold out in 24 hours.

“We are pleased to bring the Santa Train back for another year and looking forward to offering visitors a unique and hassle-free holiday experience,” said Bill Otter, Society President.

Passengers will be able to select tickets on one of three trips per hour. In previous years, passengers would often wait up to 2 hours for a ride with Santa. “We’ve reduced the wait time to an average of 20 minutes or less,” Otter said.

In addition to the success of the Santa Train, the non-profit organization’s most popular attraction is its historic 1944-built steam locomotive: No. 765. This year, the engine traveled nearly 5,000 miles and attracted thousands more in operations throughout the Midwest and East Coast in another season of sold-out passenger train excursions.

The 765, Santa Train and other programming and events offered by the organization are part of a rail yard park and riverfront development project known as Headwaters Junction, which was recently highlighted in the Fort Wayne Riverfront Masterplan. The Society is currently fundraising and developing a feasibility study and business plan that will see these events operated out of downtown Fort Wayne.
