And will compete with the recently announced fireworks downtown after the Tin Caps game that same night. City vs. County, I guess – take your pick – we will all go down together?
Sort of correct, John. Except, I believe, that the fireworks out north ( whilc Centennial so graciously picked up the tab for for the last few years) predates both the Wizards–er, sorry, TinCaps– and Parkview Field by, oh, say, 60 years or so? Seems to me that the Wiz–TinCaps are competing with a long time Fort Wayne tradition on the north side. But then again, the taxpayer is probably footing the bill, somehow, on the show downtown. Thanks to Centennial for making the REAL July 4th show possible for yeat another year in Fort Wayne. Maybe when Centennial is finally sold to AT&T, and they drop the sponsorship, the TinCaps fireworks will become the primary civic celebration, instead of the longstanding display out north.
Just my .02.
And frankly, Centennial will probably spend many tens of thousands more than the TinCaps for their display which means longer, higher, more robust fireworks. Now saying that, I’m not knocking the TinCaps displays, but they are considerable shorter and less spectacular than this display will be. If I had to chose, and I do, I will visit the Centennial as I think most will simply because I can expect more and it’s a tradition!
Thanks for your two cents worth Steve – it’s always welcome here!
It is sad to see the Tin Caps not offering to combine with Centennial on their last year and than fully take it over next year when Centennial is gone. It seems they are saying if you want to watch a ball game than you have to stay here to watch the fireworks. I wonder how many people planned to go to the 4pm game and than around 9pm head out to IPFW with the family to watch the fireworks. Now they have to decide on one or the other. I will be heading out to IPFW were there is so much more to do than and showing Centennial that all the do during the year is appreciated by some of us in Fort Wayne.
Next year if it is held by the Tin Caps and I need to watch a ball game to watch fireworks I will head to another town.
How nice it would be to have a ball park close to the Fireworks so you could watch a game and than head out and watch the fireworks……If only there was a ball park at the Coliseum (LOL)
Lynn – Remember to thank all who supported the move to downtown when they run for re-election next – like Tom Didier, Tom Henry, Karen Goldner(when she was on Redevelopment Commission), Glynn Hines, and especially Tim Pape. Then remember to just thank Graham Richard, Mark Becker, Sam Talarico, Jr, Dr. Crawford, Dr. Hayhurst, and all others who accomplished this great task NOT!
Steve & Stephen: In regards to the cost of the fireworks at Tin Cap games, they charge an extra $100 per suite (or $1600 total) rental for “fireworks nights”. So do you suppose that covers the cost for each fireworks night? If so, Stephen, you are very probably correct about the comparison.
