News release from the City of Fort Wayne:
City checking high-water reports, will place barricades as needed
The City of Fort Wayne’s Public Works and City Utilities crews are checking reports of standing water on major streets and intersections and will place barricades as needed.
The City has pumps in use at following intersections to remove stormwater:
[li]Old Mill Road and Fairfax[/li]
[li]Hartman Road[/li]
[li]Dalevue and Fernwood[/li]
[li]Duck and Barr streets[/li]
These pumps were put in place before the storms hit in preparation for the anticipated rains, some as early as yesterday.
If drivers encounter standing water on a street, they should not drive through it for their safety. Instead, they should use an alternate route around the water.
The 311 call center has extended hours this evening to take reports of street flooding and other non-emergency inquiries. Because of the additional call volume, callers may want to leave a voice mail with their name, address, a telephone number where they can be reached and an explanation of the problem.
As of approximately 5 p.m. today, Fort Wayne’s 311 center had received more than 1300 calls from residents.
