FWPD: Suspicious Devices inside residence discovered

The Fort Wayne Police Department was requested to assist another government agency just before 4:00 pm on March 10, 2025, in the 2200 block of Meridian Street due to concerns about suspicious looking devices inside a residence.

  1. Level 5 Felony Possession of a Destructive Device

Details/Summary:

The Fort Wayne Police Department was requested to assist another government agency just before 4:00 pm on March 10, 2025, in the 2200 block of Meridian St. due to concerns about suspicious looking devices inside a home. The FWPD Hazardous Devices Unit (HDU) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Members of the HDU determined the devices qualified as “destructive devices” under Indiana Code. The devices no longer pose a threat to public safety as HDU members were able to safely remove and secure the devices from the home without any injuries or damage occurring.

As a result of the investigation 61-year-old Joe Ellis Gray, Jr., was charged with a single count of Level 5 Felony Possession of a Destructive Device under State law.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
