Statement from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mayor Sharon Tucker on emergency medical services in the city:
Fort Wayne, Indiana (December 6, 2024) – Today’s announcement by the Allen County Board of Commissioners to withdraw from the city-county interlocal agreement that oversees emergency medical services now provides my administration and our community more clarity as we move forward. The Commissioners have been open and transparent with me, and I understand their decision.
In the meantime, nothing will change as residents can take comfort in knowing that the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority (TRAA) and the Fort Wayne Fire Department will continue to respond to emergencies inside City of Fort Wayne limits in a timely and professional manner and have a strong commitment to saving lives.
My team and I will make sure a thoughtful and workable plan for emergency medical services in the City of Fort Wayne happens.
We’re continuing our commitment to working on developing a sustainable model for emergency services for the short term and long term. The exact features of what emergency medical services could look like in the City of Fort Wayne moving forward haven’t been determined. That’s part of our ongoing research, due diligence, and open dialogue to find a process that’s most beneficial and sustainable for patients and taxpayers.
