COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic to resume Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway; family day planned April 30, 2021

Indianapolis, Indiana (April 23, 2021) — The Indiana Department of Health, in partnership with IU Health, will resume a free COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Appointments are still available at https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/vaccine/.

The clinics will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through April 30. From April 24-29, individuals age 18 and older will receive the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which received approval to resume use from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday.

April 30 will be a family vaccination day in which families with children age 16 and older can come together to receive the first dose of the two-dose Pfizer vaccine. Appointments are required. Second-dose appointments will be scheduled at the time of the first dose.

“Thanks to the incredible partnerships of IU Health and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, we have already gotten more than 38,000 vaccines in arms in this round of clinics at IMS,” said State Health Commissioner Kris Box, M.D., FACOG. “This is our shot to protect thousands more Hoosiers from COVID-19 so that we can all start to return to the lives we lived before the pandemic.”

Appointments can be made at https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/vaccine/ or by calling 211. To date, more than 2.2 million Hoosiers have received a first dose of vaccine, and nearly 1.7 million are fully vaccinated.

“I’m grateful to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indiana Department of Health for their ongoing leadership. And I’m incredibly inspired by the more than 900 IU Health team members who have stepped up to give shots at the Speedway this month,” said IU Health Chief Clinical Officer Chris Weaver, M.D. “COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and now widely available. I encourage every eligible Hoosier to get their shot for themselves, their family and our communities. And I can’t think of a better way to welcome the Month of May in Indiana than getting your vaccine this week at the Yard of Bricks.”

The speedway is located at 4790 W. 16th St. Entrance will be through Gate 2 off 16th Street. All individuals are asked to wear a mask while being vaccinated.
