Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority news release:
Fort Wayne International Airport Celebrates Zero Discrepancies for Sixth Consecutive Year
(November 9, 2020) – Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) has now gone six years with zero discrepancies in its annual Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspection. The most recent annual certification inspection was completed and administered by the FAA Great Lakes Region Airport Certification and Safety Office.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic this year’s inspection was completed virtually and required months of work by FWA Operations staff to prepare and produce numerous records relating to Airport safety and operations. Many of these records are dependent on thorough and accurate daily inspections of the airfield, equipment, and personnel training records. These records are diligently maintained by FWA Operations, Maintenance, and Public Safety departments, as well as the Fort Wayne Aero Center.
“While COVID-19 has had many impacts on FWA, one thing that remains consistent is the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority’s commitment to safety, said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports. “Our staff works carefully to make sure that we are providing a safe and efficient airport facility and airfield for all users and FWA passengers. Six years with no discrepancies is an achievement that we are proud of and will strive to continue this streak in the future.”
The comprehensive inspection is administered by a representative of the FAA and reviews all areas of airport operations. Receiving a discrepancy typically results in a letter of correction and indicates that the airport may have specific areas within their operations that need reevaluated and addressed for regulatory compliance.
FWA has achieved zero discrepancies in each annual FAA inspection since 2015.
