News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:
Vehicle Pursuit, Drugs, and Guns
On the 12th of May 2016 Detectives of the Fort Wayne Police Department Vice and Narcotics Bureau were involved in a vehicle pursuit. At approximately 2 p.m., Detective J.C. Gutierrez observed a red Ford 500 exceeding the posted limit in the 2600 block of East Washington Boulevard. Detective Gutierrez enacted his emergency lights and siren and the vehicle refused to stop.
As the pursuit continued Detectives observed the driver and passengers throw narcotics and handguns from the vehicle. Assorted narcotics pills, marijuana, opiates, cocaine and 2 handguns were found on the side of the road after the pursuit. A Ruger P85 went through the windshield of a parked car (unoccupied) as the Ford sped down Pennsylvania Ave and a Glock 19 was found a short time later on the same street. The vehicle stopped and all 3 occupants jumped out and ran at Pennsylvania and Kitch Street. Unfortunately for the suspects they ran directly into a barbed wire fence where Detectives captured and handcuffed all three persons.
The perpetrators were charged with the following:
Kareem Jerome McPherson, age 33 from Detroit MI
- Resisting Fleeing in a Vehicle Level 6
- Resisting Fleeing on Foot A Misdemeanor
- Possession of Cocaine or Narcotic Drug Level 6
Ashton Demontre Buchanan, age 25
- Body Attachment Warrant No Bond
- Handgun Without a License A Misdemeanor
- Possession of Cocaine or Narcotic Drug Level 6
- Resisting Fleeing on Foot A Misdemeanor
- Possession of Marijuana A Misdemeanor
- Possession of a Controlled Substance A Misdemeanor
Varnell David Coe, age 25 of Redford MI
- Resisting Fleeing on Foot A Misdemeanor
- Possession of Cocaine or Narcotic Drug Level 6
- Possession of Marijuana B Misdemeanor
- Possession of a Controlled Substance A Misdemeanor
- Possession of a Handgun Without a License A Misdemeanor
This matter is under further investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department Vice & Narcotics Bureau and further charges are expected.
