News release from the Allen County Public Information Office:
County Highway Preps for Winter Storm
(January 31, 2015) — With predictions of a major winter storm headed for our area, the Allen County Highway Department is making plans to mobilize snowplows, trucks and crews over the weekend.
Based on the forecast models, the highway department expects to have all crews out on county roads by 6 a.m. Sunday. Work would continue for a 10 to 12-hour period on Sunday, then resume by 4 a.m. on Monday.
When snowplows are out on highways, motorists should make sure to give truck drivers plenty of room to work by keeping a safe distance away. Don’t tailgate and use extreme caution if you must pass.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is advising motorists to put together a travel kit or check supplies they already have. Among the items which should be included are:
- Bottled water
- Shovel
- Sand or kitty litter
- Extra blankets
- A hand crank flashlight or battery powered flashlight with extra batteries
- Booster (jumper) cables
- Chargers for cell phones and mobile devices
- Nonperishable food
- First-aid kit
