Jury Duty Phone Scam
Investigation Details:
(July 16, 2014) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department is warning citizens of a new phone scam. Residents are receiving phone calls from a person identifying themselves as a police officer. The person then tells the victim that they had missed a summons for jury duty and a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The suspect caller then goes on to explain that a fine has been assessed and victim must pay the fine. Sometimes the suspect caller becomes belligerent with potential victims.
Citizens receiving this phone call are to hang-up on the caller or not answer the phone at all. Under no circumstance should any personal information such as social security number or credit card/bank account number be given.
