News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:

Barricaded Subject

Date: Thursday, June 26, 2014
Time: 11:55 p.m.
Location: 1305 High Street
Suspect: Adult Male/25

Details:

Fort Wayne Police responded to a 911 call from the suspect who indicated to call-takers that he wanted to harm himself and too would harm any officer that approached his residence.

On arrival the suspect was acting out in a very strange manner as officer tried to communicate with him at a safe distance. At one point during the standoff a less-than-lethal beanbag round was deployed but did not have the desired effect. The suspect retreated back into his upstairs apartment and FWPD’s CRT and EST teams were summoned to handle the incident.

Several attempts were made to convince the suspect to exit his residence but failed and after approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes the decision was made to deploy two distraction devices at the front and rear doors of the home. Immediately following the detonation of those devices the suspect exited his apartment and surrendered to EST team members without incident. He was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

This incident was handled by the Fort Wayne Police Department with assistance from TRAA.
