FWCS Hosts STEM Conference for Girls
(May 16, 2014) – Fort Wayne Community Schools, the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne are hosting a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Conference for girls in kindergarten through fifth grades.
The event will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, in the Classic Walb Ballroom at IPFW. It will include an afternoon of STEM activities designed to encourage girls to think like a scientist and explore innovative concepts.
“We know girls love adventure and have just as much scientific curiosity as boys,” said LaTheresa King, a curriculum services coordinator with FWCS. “Too often, however, girls think science and math are just for boys. We want them to learn at a young age that science, technology, engineering and math are for anyone who is interested.”
The cost of the conference is $2 for the first 400 girls and includes a Girl Scout membership. Students can register at their school through Wednesday, May 21. For additional information, parents can contact LaTheresa King at Latheresa.king@fwcs.k12.in.us.
