Local PTAs Head to Indianapolis, Northrop Honored by Senate
(February 12, 2014) – Dozens of local PTA members will participate in the annual Indiana PTA Legislative Conference Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Indiana State Teachers Association (ISTA) Building, 150 West Market St., Indianapolis. The conference begins at 9:30 a.m. with PTA members from across the state gathering to discuss education legislation and receive training before heading over to the State House to meet with legislators. Indiana PTA continues its tradition of helping child advocates make their voices heard at the State House with an in-depth analysis on the latest Indiana public policy priorities affecting families, schools and communities through trainings, guest speakers, a State House visit with Indiana legislators and more.
A highlight of the conference is bringing middle and high students to Indianapolis to learn about Indiana government, education issues and how to have a voice in government.
Of special note: The Indiana Senate will read a resolution at 1:30 p.m. on the Senate Floor honoring Northrop High School, which was named the first ever National PTA School of Excellence and the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award winner for the last school year. The National PTA School of Excellence designation for Northrop High School is for 2013-2015. The National PTA School of Excellence is a recognition program that supports and celebrates partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students. As a National PTA School of Excellence, families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement.
