Mayor Launches City’s Moving Experience
The City of Fort Wayne Heads to Citizens Square

Mayor Tom Henry today kicked off the move to Citizens Square by unveiling the transition schedule to the new administration building and all the ways for the public to stay informed throughout the process.

“The move is an exciting time for all of us,” said Mayor Henry. “With our forward-looking decision to co-locate, we are coming together as a community, making things easier for our residents and making local government work better. We’re also sending an important signal to businesses everywhere that Fort Wayne and Allen County are a welcoming place for them to be. Today, our collective vision starts to become a reality. Today, my pledge to create a one-stop show for economic growth begins to take form.”

To ensure the public is always informed about this rapidly moving transition, a webpage, “Citizens Square – Move Central,” has been launched on the City of Fort Wayne website. It is located at cityoffortwayne.org/MoveCentral. Here residents will find the latest information about department move dates, maps of the area around the building and floor plans indicating the new location of the offices. This site will be updated daily with information about which offices are in transition and which ones are settled at 200 E. Berry.

With a quick glance, residents will also find move schedules on the calendar of events located on the right side of the front page of the City website at www.cityoffortwayne.org.

Information will also be posted through digital media on the City’s Fencepost forum, Facebook page and Twitter.

Emails and letters are going out from City departments to those businesses and vendors that regularly do business with the City, and, during the months of April and May, residents will find the moving schedule for frequently-visited City departments in their City Utilities bills.

Signage will be placed in the lobby of Citizens Square and at the current City-County Building. These signs will be updated daily to inform residents about offices that have moved. Additionally, volunteer greeters will be in each building to assist residents and make the moving process go smoothly.

“We have gone to great lengths to plan the move in a way that will keep all City services open and operating throughout. As with any move, there may be a glitch or two as we disconnect and reconnect computers and phones. But I’m confident that our detailed planning will keep any inconvenience to a minimum,” said Mayor Henry. “If you’re looking for the most up-to-date information about the process, go online to Move Central or call 311. We’re committed to making it easy for everyone. ”

The City’s move will begin this Saturday April 9, 2011. Offices traveling this Saturday include Community Liaisons – Cherise Dixie and Brent Wake, Property Management, Information Technology, Controller, Internal Audit and Risk Management.

“Citizens Square, ensures the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective services that increase citizen access and promote operational efficiencies for all residents,” said Mayor Henry. “Moving an enterprise as large and complex as the City is a challenge. We’ll work hard to minimize hassles for those doing business with the City during the relocation. Communication is essential, and our new technology tools will go a long way toward easing the transition.”

The City of Fort Wayne will be moving more than 40 departments into the new building. The move should be complete by the end of May. Residents with questions about the location of an office are urged to call 311.
