Press release from the Indiana Michigan Power:
I&M storm update
I&M is steadily monitoring storm conditions and resources as the snow, sleet and ice forecasted for I&M’s service territory continues to roll in. As of now, the weather has not had a significant impact on the electric system.
As a reminder, I&M encourages customers to take the following safety precautions in the event that outages occur:
- Never touch a downed wire. Always treat this situation as dangerous. Report this position online or via phone as soon as possible.
- While a generator can be convenient during an outage, potentially serious hazards exist if a generator is not used or connected properly. No matter how you plan to use a generator, always review all manufacturer’s recommendations for safe use and maintenance of the system. Do not use worn, bare, frayed, or damaged electrical cord sets with the generator, and do not plug the generator into a wall outlet. Here are some other tips for using your generator safely.
