Aunt Millie’s to donate 2,400 loaves of bread to Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana

(November 22, 2010) – Aunt Millie’s donated 2,400 loaves of Butter Top Wheat Bread to Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne last Monday, Nov. 22, 2010. The bread was delivered fresh to the foodbank at 999 E. Tillman Rd., for distribution to those in need this holiday season.

“This is the time of year when need is often at its highest,” says Jane Avery, executive director of Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana. “A generous donation like this from Aunt Millie’s goes a long way to helping us feed our hungry neighbors.”

In service since 1983, Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana is located in Fort Wayne and serves nine Indiana counties. The not-for-profit organization is dedicated to the alleviation of hunger through the use of donated food and other resources. As the largest foodbank in northeast Indiana, it collects and distributes over 10 million pounds of donated, surplus food annually and serves more than 21,100 individuals each week.

In addition to the donation to the Community Harvest Food Bank, Aunt Millie’s delivered 304 loaves of Butter Top Wheat Bread to St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen on November 12. The soup kitchen is located at 1101 S. Lafayette St. in Fort Wayne.  (AFW blog post)

In all, Aunt Millie’s will donate 60,816 loaves of bread this holiday season – over 1,000 loaves per day – to foodbanks throughout the Midwest. The retail value of the donation is $8,626 in the Fort Wayne area, and $194,003 total for the Midwest. (AFW blog post)
