Press release from Fort Wayne Community Schools:
Holland Elementary kicks off major fundraiser
Holland Elementary School is kicking off a major fundraiser with a student assembly Thursday, April 22. The school is working to raise $120,000 to install a Theraplay Center at the school.
The equipment would provide the school’s physically handicapped students access to playground equipment that offers both an opportunity to play outdoors and equipment to assist in physical therapy. Similar equipment was installed at Brentwood Elementary School in 2007 after years of fundraising by Brentwood students, staff and PTA and with assistance from the City of Fort Wayne.
Holland staff members anticipate fundraising will take two to three years and are hoping for major donors to contribute to the effort.
Thursday’s kickoff begins with student assemblies at 9:30 a.m. for third- through fifth-graders and 1:30 p.m. for kindergarten through second-graders. At the assemblies, the school’s “Jar Wars” fundraiser will begin, challenging classes to raise the most money. Students and their families will also be invited to the Burger King Benefit Night from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Burger King at 6225 Lima Road. During the Benefit Night, Burger King will donate 20 percent of increased sales made during the event.
