Commissioners to hold Public Hearing on Harlan Incorporation petition
Hearing set for Feb. 23 at Harlan Elementary School
(February 5, 2010) – The Allen County Board of Commissioners today announced a date and location for a public hearing on a petition for incorporating the town of Harlan. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, February 23, at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium of Harlan Elementary School.
The hearing is a requirement of the state statute governing the incorporation process (IC 36-5-1). It must occur between 60 and 90 days after the date of the filing of a petition. Those supporting the incorporation of Harlan filed their petition on December 4, 2009.
Residents and landowners within the area being considered for incorporation are entitled to be heard at the public hearing. It will then be up to the Board of Commissioners to approve or deny the incorporation petition based on findings required by state law. No decision by the Board is expected immediately following the conclusion of the hearing.
