Press release from the American Red Cross:

First Annual Run 4 Red 5K Cross Country Race to benefit American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana

September is National Preparedness month. Being prepared for emergencies is crucial at home, school, work and in your community. Disaster can strike quickly and without warning. The best way to make you and your family safer is to be prepared before disaster strikes.

To help raise awareness of the importance of being prepared and to challenge local first responders, relief workers and the community at large, the American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana, with the support of Lutheran Health Network, is hosting the 1st annual Run 4 Red 5K Cross Country race.

The Run 4 Red will also include a 1 mile family fun walk and preparedness stations where your family can learn how to be prepared in case of an emergency. Funds raised from the Run will benefit the local Red Cross programs and services that help the community to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

The 1st annual Run 4 Red will take place on Sunday, September 13, at 1 p.m. at the Plex High School cross country course located at 1807 E. California Road, Fort Wayne, across the river from IPFW.

The Red Cross is challenging all first responders and relief workers in our service delivery area (Allen, DeKalb, Noble, Steuben, Wells and Whitley Counties in Indiana, and Williams County, Ohio): Sheriffs, Municipal Police, State Police, Fire Departments, EMS, EMT, Hospitals, National Guard, Military Reserves, County and Municipal Governments to participate in this Run. Prove your team has the fastest first responders in northeast Indiana!

Run 4 Red is open to the general public. The Red Cross encourages all members of the community to show their support and get prepared! Register your team today by visiting www.redcrossofnei.org.
