The Northeast Indiana Passenger Rail Association (NIPRA) held a public meeting yesterday at the Baker Street Train Station.
The main speaker was INDOT Commissioner Michael W. Reed.  Commissioner Reed announced that Governor Mitch Daniels would be committing to the “south” route passenger service for Northern Indiana and would be applying for Federal Stimulus funding to build a rail corridor from Chicago, to Fort Wayne and up to Toledo, Ohio.  This was a momentous announcement in that there has been some ambivalence about Governor Daniels feelings on the subject.  Geoff Paddock, NIPRA Board member, commented to me later that his was the first good news he’s had in almost a  decade of work on this project.  I have more video of the entire meeting plus an interview with Councilwoman Karen Goldner which I will post sometime this weekend.
