Indiana General Assembly continues investment in Coliseum and Grand Wayne Center<\/strong>
\nLegislation approved by the IGA provides additional funding for capital projects at both facilities<\/em><\/p>\n

Fort Wayne, Indiana (April 1, 2021) \u2014 Legislation that would increase the amount of sales and income taxes which support the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum and the Grand Wayne Center has received final approval in the General Assembly.<\/p>\n

The Indiana Senate concurred with the House changes today and passed Senate Bill 384 by a vote of 47-to-1). It now goes to Governor Holcomb for his signature. The Indiana House previously passed the bill by a 92-to-3 vote.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Allen County Professional Sports and Convention Development Area (PSCDA) is able to capture $3 million in local and state income taxes and state sales tax generated within the PSCDA. Under the bill, the maximum amount collected would increase from $3 million to $5 million. The first $2.6 million will go to the Memorial Coliseum and the next $400,000 to the Grand Wayne Center. The remaining $2 million will be split evenly between the Memorial Coliseum and the Grand Wayne Center.<\/p>\n

The additional funding will be used to continue investments in capital needs at both facilities. These investments include a proposed $15 million expansion of the conference center and a new ice floor in the arena at the Coliseum, as well as roof replacement and renovations to Memorial Hall.<\/p>\n

“Senate Bill 384 reallocates an additional $2 million to support the Memorial Coliseum and Grand Wayne Center without a tax increase through the Allen County Professional Sports Convention and Development Area,\u201d said Zackery Sand, director of government affairs in the Allen County Commissioners\u2019 office. \u201cThis bi-partisan legislation will help ensure that we can emerge from this global pandemic in a position of strength, ready to grow and continue in our success as a community.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
