\nDeadlines Approaching<\/em><\/p>\n

Is there a skill you’ve always wanted to learn? The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following classes for adults:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Beginning Spanish, Tuesdays, Jan 12 – March 16, 6 – 7:30 pm (Fee:$66)
\nSpanish III, Thursdays, Jan. 14 – March 18, 5:30 – 7 pm, (Fee: $69)
\nSpanish VI, Thursdays, Jan. 14 – March 18, 7:15 – 8:45 pm, (Fee: $69)<\/strong>
\nSpanish rivals English as the language of choice in the Americas with over 250 million native Spanish speakers in South, Central and North America. It is also one of the easiest languages for English speakers to learn. The Beginning Spanish class, for those who know very little or no Spanish, will start with basic pronunciation and simple phrases. Each class progresses with more complex phrases and has some grammar sprinkled throughout. Registration deadlines: Jan. 5 and 7. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main St.<\/p>\n

Writing a Short Story, Wednesdays, Jan. 13 – March 3, 6:30 – 8:30 pm<\/strong>
\nCreative writing is aimed at getting people who like writing — poems, short stories, drama, essays, you name it — to put pen to paper. Our beginning class will guide you through a structured writing agenda. At the end of the class you will have completed a short story of no more than 5,000 words. Instructor Linda Wade has published over 35 non-fiction books for children, more than 500 meditations, and over 100 short stories (fiction and non-fiction). Registration deadline: Jan. 6. Fee: $68. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main St.<\/p>\n

Furniture Upholstery, Wednesdays, Jan. 13 – March 17, 6 – 9 pm<\/strong>
\nIn the 10-week class you will learn basic frame repair, spring tying, pattern layout, fabric selection, and cushion and furniture styles (no recliners or sofas, just single sitters, please). The 5-week class is designed for very simple projects such as dining room chairs with upholstered seats. Please bring your chair to the first class with fabric intact, if possible. A list of required tools and supplies will be provided when you register. The amount of material needed for your project will be determined at the first class. Registration deadline: Jan. 6. Fee: $98. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main St.<\/p>\n

Just Strummin’ My Guitar, Thursdays, Jan. 14 – March 18, 7:30 – 8:30 pm<\/strong>
\nThe guitar is especially versatile not only because it can be used in many styles of music (from death metal to country and everything in between) but also because it’s easy to learn, once you master a few basics. The class will teach you basic terms and notations, chords and chord structure, I-IV-V progressions in several keys and how to read music. At the end of ten weeks you will be able to play several familiar tunes. Registration deadline: Jan. 7. Fee: $63. Location: Community Center, 233 W. Main St.<\/p>\n
