FWCS students celebrate Thanksgiving<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Fort Wayne Community Schools students will celebrate Thanksgiving by learning about the holiday,\u00c2\u00a0enjoying their own Thanksgiving feasts and helping others in the community. Below are some of the\u00c2\u00a0events taking place over the next week:<\/p>\n
Friday, Nov. 20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Staff and students will sit down together at 11:30 a.m. for their annual Thanksgiving meal at\u00c2\u00a0Nebraska Elementary, 1525 Boone St. Kindergarten students will provide entertainment by singing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Monday, Nov. 23<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Kindergarten students at Irwin Elementary, 3501 S. Anthony Blvd., will have a simple feast at 2\u00c2\u00a0p.m. Students will share their versions and reasons of why we celebrate Thanksgiving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Tuesday, Nov. 24<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Kindergartners at Bunche Montessori Early Childhood Center, 1111 Greene St., will enjoy stone\u00c2\u00a0soup for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Students have read the story of “Stone Soup,” which explains\u00c2\u00a0how a village makes a delicious meal by working together.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Wednesday, Nov. 25<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Kindergarten students at Bunche Montessori will have a Thanksgiving feast for lunch at 11:15\u00c2\u00a0a.m.<\/li>\n
- Students at Indian Village Elementary, 33835 Wenonah Lane, will enjoy their annual Thanksgiving\u00c2\u00a0feast at 11:30 a.m. Students dress up for the day and a special meal is ordered. Lunch includes\u00c2\u00a0turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dinner roll, cranberry Jell-O and pumpkin cake.<\/li>\n
- Kindergarten students at Croninger Elementary, 6700 Trier Road, will enjoy stone soup for lunch\u00c2\u00a0at 11:40 a.m. The students have read the story “Stone Soup” and will make the soup Tuesday\u00c2\u00a0afternoon. On Monday, they will make friendship bracelets that they will wear while they eat their\u00c2\u00a0stone soup.<\/li>\n
- First-graders at Croninger will dress as Pilgrims and Indians and have a feast of apple slices,\u00c2\u00a0popcorn, pumpkin cake and juice at 2 p.m. They will also watch “The Mouse on the Mayflower,”\u00c2\u00a0an animated, historical movie.<\/li>\n
- Jane Avery, CEO and director of the Community Harvest Food Bank, will be the keynote speaker at\u00c2\u00a0the Thanksgiving Assembly at Memorial Park Middle School, 2200 Maumee Ave. The assembly will begin\u00c2\u00a0at 9:30 a.m. and will include vocal and instrumental musical ensembles. At the conclusion, the food\u00c2\u00a0contributed to the annual Thanksgiving food drive will be distributed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Ongoing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Four FWCS high schools are working together to gather food for Miss Virginia’s Mission House\u00c2\u00a0and St. Mary’s Christmas Food Box Program. North Side, Snider, New Tech students at Wayne and\u00c2\u00a0Elmhurst are hosting food drives and asking neighbors of the schools to contribute. Some students\u00c2\u00a0will be out in neighborhoods collecting door-to-door from homes and businesses. Others will work\u00c2\u00a0school events to collect donations. Students will also help box items at Miss Virginia’s and St.\u00c2\u00a0Mary’s and will help serve meals at St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen on Thanksgiving Day. Food items\u00c2\u00a0and donations will be collected through Dec. 11.<\/li>\n
- New Tech students are also writing letters to soldiers thanking them for their service after\u00c2\u00a0watching the movie “Taking Chance,” a movie about a fallen soldier that caused students to\u00c2\u00a0reflect on how many people give up their lives for our freedom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n
