Gov. Holcomb names Brown as Director of the State Personnel Department<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

INDIANAPOLIS (December 10, 2020) \u2013 Gov. Eric J. Holcomb today announced that he has selected Matthew Brown to serve as the director of the Indiana State Personnel Department.<\/p>\n

\u201cMatthew is a dedicated public servant who understands the inner workings of the State Personnel Department through his variety of experiences within the agency,\u201d Gov. Holcomb said. \u201cUnder his leadership, the department will enable, develop, and inspire state employees to continue delivering great government service to Hoosiers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown currently serves as the director of the state Office of Administrative Law Proceedings. Brown launched the office which was created by legislation in 2019 to further ensure Administrative Law Judges\u2019 independence and their delivery of efficient service to Hoosiers. Administrative Law Judges resolve disputes between government agencies and the people affected by the decision of the agency. As the office\u2019s first director, Brown is responsible for administering the office, hiring the judges and assigning proceedings.<\/p>\n

Brown began his career at SPD in 2006 and served in multiple roles until 2012, including as director of dispute resolution. After a stint in private practice, he returned to the department in 2014 to serve as the interim director of talent acquisition and then later as employee relations counsel. From 2017-2019, he served as the deputy director of operations at SPD.<\/p>\n

Brown earned a Bachelor\u2019s degree in public affairs from Indiana University and a law degree from the Indiana University McKinney School of Law.<\/p>\n

Brown will begin his new position on Monday. Former SPD Director Britni Saunders resigned from her position in November. Office of Administrative Law Proceedings Deputy Director and General Counsel Michelle Allen will serve as the interim director of OALP.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
