More Volunteers Needed for Annual Cleanup<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(August 20, 2020) \u2013 The deadline to registration for Fort Wayne\u2019s Great American Cleanup\u2122 is getting close and volunteers are still needed. The registration deadline for the September 19 cleanup is next Monday, August 24.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew with delaying the event because of the pandemic we would have fewer volunteers this year, but the need is still there and we\u2019re hoping for a rush to sign up in the next few days. As it stands now, we only have about half of our usual 5,000 volunteers,\u201d said Matt Gratz, Manager of the Solid Waste Department.<\/p>\n

Residents, families, churches, youth organizations, schools, businesses and service organizations are invited to make a difference in their community and neighborhoods by participating in the annual Great American Cleanup\u2122 — the nation’s most extensive community improvement program. <\/p>\n

Volunteers are asked to pre-register so that the City can accommodate them with event tee-shirts, gloves, and trash bags. All cleanup areas will be located outside and should allow for social distancing. In the few instances where social distancing is not possible, volunteers are required to wear their face coverings. <\/p>\n

Individuals, families and groups can register at: https:\/\/www.cityoffortwayne.org\/great-american-clean-up.html<\/a> or call 427-1345, no later than Monday, August 24, 2020. <\/p>\n

Volunteer groups may pick an area they wish to clean or have the staff from the City’s Solid Waste Department assign them a location. The clean-up process will begin between 8 and 9 a.m. on September 19.<\/p>\n

The Great American Cleanup\u2122 is the country’s largest beautification and community improvement effort. Nationwide, there were more than three million volunteers last year. Fort Wayne’s cleanup efforts focus on neighborhoods, vacant lots, trails, streets and roads, and our rivers. Graffiti removal is included as well. The event provides an excellent opportunity for neighborhood associations, church groups, service organizations, youth groups, schools, and all residents to make a difference.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
