Yesterday, I met with Shan Gunawardena, Traffic Engineer, and Tom Cain, City Planner, to get an update on the Calhoun Streetscape project.<\/p>\n

In the above photo, the darker area at the bottom is top soil. \u00c2\u00a0On top of the soil is steel reinforcing rods which will help to support the concrete that will be poured on top of it. \u00c2\u00a0This will form a “soil vault” which will allow the tree roots of the new trees to grown virtually unimpeded.<\/p>\n

Below are two videos. \u00c2\u00a0One is with Shan and Tom talking about progress on the project, which is at the half-way point and the other is with Tom talking about the soil vaults. \u00c2\u00a0Photos follow.<\/p>\n
