Health officials announce third COVID-19 death<\/strong><\/p>\n

INDIANAPOLIS (March 20, 2020) \u2014 The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) today announced that a third Hoosier has died of COVID-19. The patient is an adult resident of Marion County over age 60 who had been hospitalized.<\/p>\n

ISDH reported 23 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing to 79 the number of Hoosiers diagnosed through ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and private laboratories. All but one are adults.<\/p>\n

\u201cLosing a loved one is devastating, and it\u2019s troubling to see the toll that COVID-19 is taking on elderly residents here in Indiana and across the country,\u201d said State Health Commissioner Kris Box, M.D., FACOG. \u201cI implore Hoosiers to continue to stay home if they\u2019re sick and practice social distancing so that we can halt the spread of this virus and protect the most vulnerable among us.\u201d<\/p>\n

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by a novel, or new, coronavirus that has not been previously identified. The virus causing COVID-19 is not the same as the coronaviruses that commonly circulate among humans and cause mild illness, like the common cold. There is no vaccine and no treatment. <\/p>\n
