Brandenberger Files For GOP Nomination for Allen County Coroner<\/strong>

<\/p>\n

(January 21, 2020) \u2014 Dr. Jon Brandenberger, a Fort Wayne physician and former two-term Allen County Coroner, has announced his candidacy to return to the office he held until 2013.<\/p>\n

Brandenberger, a Deputy Allen County Corner and family medicine physician with Parkview Health, PPG Family Medicine, filed his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Allen County Coroner today (Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe central job of the County Coroner is investigating and understanding death,\u201d Brandenberger said. \u201cBut a Coroner can do so much more. The job can be about learning from death, understanding life and making our futures better and healthier. I want a chance to continue that work and strive toward making ours the healthiest community in Indiana.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brandenberger was previously elected to two terms as Coroner, serving from 2005 until 2013. He served as Deputy Coroner under Dr. Ray Beights and Dr. Phillip O’Shaughnessy and currently serves as Deputy Coroner under Dr. Craig Nelson. Brandenberger was appointed by Republican caucus to fill the remainder of O’Shaughnessy\u2019s term upon his death in 2001.<\/p>\n

Indiana\u2019s Constitution limits the County Coroner to serving two consecutive elected terms. Outgoing Coroner Nelson has endorsed Brandenberger in the May 5, 2020, Republican primary election.<\/p>\n

\u201cAllen County is combatting the most complex set of challenges to health and life it has ever faced,\u201d said Dr. Nelson. \u201cThe opioid epidemic, suicide, distracted driving and so many other threats demand a leader in the Coroner\u2019s Office who has \u2018been there.\u2019 In this year\u2019s Republican primary, that leader is Dr. Jon Brandenberger. I am proud to endorse him. He\u2019s the clear choice for an office that demands experience, expertise and compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n

A 1978 graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine and 1981 graduate of the Fort Wayne Family Practice Residency Program, Brandenberger has been a Fort Wayne physician since 1981. He is certified by the State of Indiana as a Medicolegal Death Investigator (MDI) and teaches the course twice annually through the Indiana Coroners training board.<\/p>\n

Brandenberger has been deeply involved in the community throughout his career. He is secretary of the Mary and Perry Spencer Foundation; a former member of the board of the Allen County Sheriff\u2019s Regional Training Facility; a member of the Core Advisory Group of the Metropolitan Medical Response System of Fort Wayne and Allen County since 2008; and former Medical Director for the Fort Wayne Police Department.<\/p>\n

Among his proudest accomplishments is the work of Drive Alive. Brandenberger has served as President of Drive Alive since 2004.<\/p>\n

As a founding member of Drive Alive, Dr. Brandenberger has been committed to young driver safety in our community. His dedication to promoting safe driving techniques and parental involvement with young drivers has been an influential force within the Drive Alive organization. Dr. Brandenberger\u2019s leadership has helped to make Allen County roads safer for everyone.<\/p>\n

Under Indiana law, the Coroner is charged with identification of the deceased and determination of the cause and manner of death in Coroner\u2019s cases. Dr. Brandenberger has completed advanced death investigation training and has been a member of the Indiana Coroners\u2019 Association since 1993.<\/p>\n

Dr. Brandenberger has been married to his wife Betty since 1974. They have two children and eight grandchildren. Brandenberger and his wife are active members of Blackhawk Ministries.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
