FWCS enrollment up for 2009-10 school year <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne Community Schools’ enrollment grew by nearly 200 students according to the count of students at the end of the day Friday, Sept. 18, the official count day for Indiana schools.<\/p>\n

At the end of the day Friday, FWCS unofficial enrollment was 31,587, up from 31,400 a year ago.<\/p>\n

“Seeing growth in our district is a sign that the community values our schools. Our vision is to be a source of community pride, and enrollment increases show us that we are making strides in that,” Superintendent Wendy Robinson said. “While we are happy with more students overall in our district, what is most important now is that we focus on providing each student, as an individual, with a high quality education. Big numbers are important to look at, but the little numbers matter even more.”<\/p>\n

It appears FWCS remains the second-largest district in the state. Student count at Indianapolis Public Schools on Friday was 33,521.<\/p>\n

All schools in Indiana are required to count their students on the state’s official count day, which this year fell on Sept. 18. Final student numbers are due to the state Department of Education by Sept. 30, and funding from the state is based on this count.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
