The three superheroes include: Kendall Williams – Cancer Services, Donna Emley – Francine’s Friends, and Jeff Krudop – American Cancer Society. Each has donned a costume and cape on billboards and in-store posters throughout the Fort Wayne area. The event is once again supported by the creativity of local, award-winning ad agency Ferguson Advertising.

Additional Fight Cancer Day store activities include:

Food sampling

Celebrity baggers

Radio remotes at some locations

Kroger is donating 3% of sales on Wednesday, October 5th to ACS, Cancer Services and Francine’s Friends.

“Kroger Fight Cancer Day 2015” total proceeds were $76,271. Over 37 years, the annual Cancer Day event has raised $4,816,773 for local cancer organizations and the company hopes to significantly exceed that amount in 2016. Volunteers from ACS, Cancer Services and Francine’s Friends, many of whom are cancer survivors, will be working in stores across the region in support of the event.

Kroger customers will be invited to contribute to the local cancer organizations by donating cash in increments of $1, $3 or $5 between Saturday, October 1st and Monday, October 31st. There is no limit to the total amount a customer can contribute. In appreciation, Kroger is offering a special “Kroger Fight Cancer Day 2016” ad with savings opportunities available only in the 15 northeast Indiana stores.

Also, local Kroger District Manager Chris Gomez has committed his participation in the American Cancer Society “Real Men Wear Pink of Fort Wayne” program. Chris is among other community leaders raising awareness and funds for this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, pledging to personally raise an additional $2,500 for the program.

According to Kroger President Katie Wolfram, “We are determined to be a compassionate and supportive corporate citizen in every local community we serve. Kroger customers and associates always have been especially generous in supporting Kroger Fight Cancer Day and we are hopeful that will be the case again this year. Cancer has a devastating effect on so many members of the Kroger family. Over the last 11 years, Kroger’s Sharing Courage campaign has contributed more than $33 million to the fight against breast cancer, but cancer does not take a year off and we must redouble our efforts. Each year, we celebrate our survivors and we remember those we have lost. To prevail, we must work as a team and Kroger is deeply honored to work with Cancer Services, the American Cancer Society, Francine’s Friends and volunteers from so many community organizations to raise critical funds for the fight against cancer.”

Friday, October 14th Francine’s Friends lunch:
Francine’s Friends 12th Annual Lunch with Friends — “Celebrating Champions” — is being held at the Memorial Coliseum from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday, October 14th. Francine’s Friends, a local, all-volunteer organization with the mission of making early detection of breast cancer available to every woman in Fort Wayne and the surrounding counties. Knowing that early detection is the best protection, Francine’s Friends helps provide screening mobile mammography to women who might otherwise not have access. They make it accessible and convenient by going to businesses, community sites, clinics, churches, and other locations women frequent and affordable for those who are under-insured or not insured at all. For more information about this year’s event and Francine’s Friends in general, please visit FrancinesFriends.org.

“Francine’s Friends is especially proud to partner with Kroger, Cancer Services, and ACS in “Fight Cancer Day”! Our program got its start with a ribbon cutting at the Kroger store on North Clinton and continues to bring the coach to area Kroger stores in the Fort Wayne area throughout the year,” explained Francine’s Friends Board President, Sharon Simmons. “This is about making early detection available to ALL women in our community, regardless of any barriers, and we are thrilled to join forces each October with Kroger.”

Saturday, October 15th – American Cancer Society “Making Strides” event:
This year’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” (MSABC) event, with Kroger as a Presenting Sponsor, begins at 9:00 AM at Parkview Field, with registration at 7:00 AM. Bring your friends and family out to be part of this non-competitive, 5K (3.1-mile) event will help bring a lifetime of change for people facing breast cancer and their families. The “Making Strides” event raises awareness about reducing our breast cancer risk and raises money to help the American Cancer Society fight the disease with breast cancer research, information and services, and access to mammograms for women who need them.

We are grateful for Kroger’s commitment to funding critical research, programs and services through their partnership at this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Fort Wayne,” said Mindy Torres, Senior Market Manager, Community Engagement of the American Cancer Society of Northeast Indiana. “Thanks to all of our passionate supporters, the American Cancer Society is able to make an even greater impact and create a world with less cancer by helping those who have already been diagnosed, those who may face a diagnosis in the future, and by helping others avoid a diagnosis altogether as a result of increased education and risk reduction. Together, we are a united force against cancer, on a mission to save lives and celebrate life!”

“Kroger is Cancer Services’ ‘Partner in Caring,'” said Dianne May, CEO and President of Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana. “We are grateful for the generous and transformational support Kroger provides through Fight Cancer Day and thorough the year.
