Allen Extends Hitting Streak to 21 Games<\/strong><\/p>\n

LANSING, Mich. (August 7, 2016) – TinCaps catcher Austin Allen extended the longest active hitting streak in the Midwest League to 21 games on Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 loss for Fort Wayne against the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) at Cooley Law School Stadium.<\/p>\n

Allen, the 22-year-old from St. Louis, lined an opposite-field double to left in the top of the first inning. That was the first of four hits, all doubles, on the day for the TinCaps (18-25, 54-59). However, Fort Wayne stranded Allen at second and proceeded to finish 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine on base.<\/p>\n

The lackluster TinCaps offensive performance negated a fine start from J.C. Cosme (L, 8-6), who was only guilty of allowing a two-out RBI single to Ryan Hissey in the sixth. Hissey, Lansing’s catcher, brought in third baseman Juan Kelly, who during Hissey’s at-bat, stole second base to put himself in scoring position. Cosme departed after that and was replaced by Will Stillman. The reliever threw 2 1\/3 no-hit innings.<\/p>\n

Justin Maese, 19, went the first five on the mound for the Lugnuts (21-22, 57-56). Lefty Dan Lietz (W, 6-1) went the next 2 1\/3 frames followed by Andrew Case (S, 5), who recorded the final five outs.<\/p>\n

As for Allen, he’s now two games with a hit away from tying Sean Burroughs, who set the Fort Wayne franchise record for consecutive games with a hit at 23 in 1999.<\/p>\n
