Parkview Field Magic Strikes, TinCaps Win in 15<\/strong><\/p>\n

(July 31, 2016) – Parkview Field Magic struck again on Saturday night as the TinCaps won their fourth game in a row, 4-3, in 15 innings over the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) in front of a sell-out crowd of 7,622.<\/p>\n

The long night finally came to a close when third baseman Carlos Belen drove in catcher Austin Allen from first base with a walk-off triple to right-center field off Daniel Young (L, 0-1). It was Fort Wayne’s first run since the fifth inning, and the game’s first run since the seventh.<\/p>\n

This was the longest TinCaps game since April 18, 2014, when Fort Wayne and the Burlington Bees played an 18-inning marathon at Parkview Field that went 5 hours, 45 minutes.<\/p>\n

For Belen, the 20-year-old from the Dominican Republic, he finished a home run shy of the cycle as he went 4-for-7. His game-winning triple helped to make amends for being tagged out in the 13th when he over-ran third base with runners at first and second and one out. Earlier, in the fifth, Belen was at first base and got doubled up on a fly out to left field.<\/p>\n

While Belen received the pie-to-the-face treatment after Allen touched home, Fort Wayne’s pitchers deserved just as much adoration. Left-hander Jos\u00c3\u00a9 Castillo (W, 1-1), a 20-year-old from Venezuela, was spectacular for a season-long 4 2\/3 innings, striking out a career-high nine batters.<\/p>\n

Castillo followed after righty Corey Kimber spun 3 1\/3 innings with three strikeouts. TinCaps starter Emmanuel Ramirez, in his first start of the season with the team, worked seven quality innings, allowing only three runs.<\/p>\n

Perhaps most impressive, the Fort Wayne trio on the mound didn’t walk a batter all night. In fact, TinCaps pitchers haven’t walked a batter in 45 1\/3 innings since Monday.<\/p>\n

Initially, it was Lansing that led 1-0 in the first. Fort Wayne, however, responded in the second when first baseman Nick Vilter roped an RBI double into the left-field corner to tie it, 1-1.<\/p>\n

The Lugnuts (18-17, 54-51) grasped a 2-1 lead in the third, but the TinCaps answered in the home half on Vilter’s sacrifice fly to left field that reeled in center fielder Tyler Moore.<\/p>\n

In the fifth, Vilter smacked another sacrifice fly to left to plate shortstop Ruddy Giron and hand the TinCaps a 3-2 lead. Belen was out at first on the play.<\/p>\n

The Lugnuts responded, though, with a Connor Panas solo home run in the top of the seventh to knot the game, 3-3. It stayed that way for a while.<\/p>\n
