IPFW Looks Forward to Building on Success, Working with Purdue and IU<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
(April 15, 2016) \u00e2\u20ac\u201d Indiana University\u00e2\u20ac\u201dPurdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) Chancellor Vicky L. Carwein gave the following statement this morning about yesterday’s governance announcement by Purdue University President Mitch Daniels and Indiana University President Michael McRobbie:<\/p>\n
We greatly value our relationships with both Purdue University and Indiana University, and appreciate Purdue President Daniels and IU President McRobbie jointly committing to begin discussions about the governance structure at IPFW.<\/p>\n
I trust that IPFW will be represented on the planning team the presidents will appoint and that the team focuses its efforts to support student success and regional impact.<\/p>\n
With our new Multisystem Metropolitan University designation in hand, we look forward to building upon our many successes, such as:<\/p>\n
\n- Recent selection of our third student as a Fulbright Scholar<\/li>\n
- Second-highest average pass rate on the registered nurse licensing exam of all baccalaureate nursing programs (public and private) for four consecutive years in the state of Indiana<\/li>\n
- Number 1 ranking among all Indiana colleges and universities on student social mobility<\/li>\n
- Symphonic Wind Ensemble performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City<\/li>\n
- One of the top 60 and most affordable engineering programs (where a doctorate is not offered), as ranked by U.S. News and World Report<\/li>\n
- More than 300 student interns and experiential learning placements in northeast Indiana each semester<\/li>\n
- 60% increase in bachelor’s degrees produced over the past 10 years<\/li>\n
- 30,000 alumni living and working in northeast Indiana<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
By working together with Purdue and IU, we will find new ways to continue improving and succeeding.<\/p>\n
I hope that the soon-to-be-appointed planning team will carefully examine and consider the complex impacts that any recommendation may have on the student experience and IPFW’s ability to serve the needs of the community as we move forward.<\/p>\n
IPFW is eager to join Purdue and IU in developing a plan with specific strategies that will realize a vision for the future that focuses on student success and the long-term prosperity of northeast Indiana.<\/p>\n
