American Red Cross and TinCaps Hit 300!<\/strong>
\nCommunity members step up to the plate and achieve largest Allen County community blood drive record with 339 total donations<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The goal was set forth, a challenge was made, and the community stepped up to the plate to answer the call to action. The American Red Cross and Fort Wayne TinCaps issued a challenge to the Fort Wayne community – donate over 300 units of blood in a one-day community blood drive.<\/p>\n

The community came out in force throughout the day. “We are thrilled,” said Sharyn Whitman, CEO of American Red Cross, Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region. “The TinCaps have been a pleasure to work with, their enthusiasm for the entire project has been contagious. We opened the doors to Parkview Field’s Lincoln Financial Event Center at 7:30 a.m. this morning and a steady stream of donors filled the space throughout the day. To hit a number like 339 is really a testament to the way this community can pull together when there is a need. A big day like this will make a dent in the shortage, but continuous donations are needed to maintain an adequate supply.” The mark of 339 surpassed the former record of 283, set in September of 2005.<\/p>\n

“This has been a magical year for the TinCaps at Parkview Field,” said TinCaps Vice President of Marketing, Michael Limmer. “With records being set on the field and in the stands, it’s gratifying to break a record that truly impacts this area in a direct way. Over 300 units of blood are now in the system to be used throughout the region when people are in need – that’s more important than balls, strikes and outs. The Red Cross made the entire planning and implementation process easy. Parkview Field might hold the single day donation mark now, but we welcome others to step up and attempt to break the record. We’re competitive and like to hold the title, but the Red Cross and those that will receive these units of blood are the real winners today.”<\/p>\n
