Exhibit of Allen County Courthouse blueprints to be displayed at FWMoA<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(March 21, 2016) – The Fort Wayne Museum of Art is pleased to present an exhibit of the original blueprints of the Allen County Courthouse, an architectural wonder that has been a part of the Fort Wayne skyline since 1902. The exhibit will be on display April 23 to June 12, 2016 and is produced in collaboration with the Allen County Courthouse Preservation Trust.<\/p>\n

This is the first time that the blueprints have been displayed to the public.<\/p>\n

The exhibit includes dozens of original blueprints originally rendered by architect Brentwood S. Tolan. Completed in 1902, it was a gift to future generations from visionary leaders who wished to express in art and architecture the dignity of the government, the supremacy of the people and the grandeur of the law. The Allen County Courthouse is recognized as a National Historic Landmark for its original murals and sculptures, scagliola faux marbling, unique tile floor designs and abundant stained glass. This exhibition is a fusion of art, architecture, and history and presents the wonders of this beaux arts treasure by melding the worlds of fine art and architecture.<\/p>\n

“This exhibit will give the public the chance to see and understand the roots of our beautiful and unique Courthouse’s history. We are most grateful to the Courthouse Preservation Trust and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art for making this very special opportunity possible,” said Allen County Commissioner Linda Bloom. The Board of Commissioners owns the blueprints and the Courthouse.<\/p>\n

FWMoA is planning an opening reception on April 22 at 6:00pm to celebrate the exhibit. George Bachnivsky, principal architect at MSKTD and noted authority on the architectural features of the Allen County Courthouse, will present a lecture. The public is welcome to attend and enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. Cost is $5 Members \/ $10 non-members.<\/p>\n

General admission to see this exhibition at the museum is free for FWMoA members, $7 adults, $5 students and seniors 65+, and $20 for families. General admission is free for everyone on Thursdays 5-8pm. Veterans, active military personnel, and their families receive free general admission. FWMoA gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10-6pm, Thursdays 10-8pm, and Sundays 12-5pm.<\/p>\n
