Ground broken for new patient-centered Parkview Cancer Institute<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(October 29, 2015) – Parkview Health president and CEO Mike Packnett joined health system and community leaders to break ground for the Parkview Cancer Institute. The patient-centered, physician led institute will be built on the southwestern portion of the campus and will connect to Parkview Regional Medical Center. Construction will begin soon with the new facility’s completion projected for 1st quarter of 2018.<\/p>\n

After announcing the Cancer Institute in May, as part of the vision process, Parkview leaders toured many of the renowned cancer programs throughout the country observing and identifying the best cancer care design elements, technologies and innovations to include in the new facility. Leaders also continue to meet with current and former patients, as well as their families, listening for ways to improve the cancer care model while treating the whole person: body, mind and spirit.<\/p>\n

“The Parkview Cancer Institute will be a one-of-a-kind treatment center that will be unparalleled in this region,” said Mike Packnett, president and CEO, Parkview Health. “Patients receiving care at the Parkview Cancer Institute will have access to state-of-the-art technology and care options, as well as an integrated clinical care and supportive experience that will promote comfort, hope and confidence as we work to best support them through their cancer journey.”<\/p>\n

As a patient-centered cancer institute, the facility will minimize the feeling of being in a hospital by incorporating a healing environment through the use of natural lighting, private spaces for families, respite rooms, an indoor garden space and more. The Parkview Cancer Institute will be a physician led facility using an enhanced care navigator system that will allow for a coordinated process to help improve quality of care and patient experience.<\/p>\n

“Eliminating cancerous cells is just one component of a patient’s care plan. When a patient is diagnosed, the Parkview Cancer Institute physicians and care providers will be there with an integrated care model that will truly improve how patients battling cancer receive treatment,” said Neil Sharma, MD, director interventional endoscopy and endoscopic oncology, Parkview Physicians Group – Gastroenterology. As a physician led facility, we will empower the patient and their family to get the treatment they desire, in one place, and our physicians and care providers will be there to support them throughout their cancer journey.”<\/p>\n

Parkview’s state-of-the-art Cancer Institute will include radiation oncology, medical oncology, imaging, support services, infusion areas, and interdisciplinary clinics and services. Additionally, the Cancer Institute physicians and care providers will expand work with the Mirro Center for Research and Innovation to increase the number of clinical trials patients have access to.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
