Parkview Regional Medical Center receives meritorious award for surgical patient outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
(October 19, 2015) \u00e2\u20ac\u201d The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP\u00c2\u00ae) has recognized Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC) as one of 52 participating hospitals to have achieved meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care in 2014. PRMC is the only hospital in Indiana to receive this international distinction.<\/p>\n
As a participant in ACS NSQIP, PRMC is required to track the outcomes of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures and collect data that directs patient safety and the quality of surgical care improvements. Based on data collected, the ACS NSQIP commends hospitals for achieving meritorious outcome performances related to patient management in eight clinical areas:<\/p>\n
\n- mortality<\/li>\n
- unplanned intubation<\/li>\n
- ventilator > 48 hours<\/li>\n
- renal failure<\/li>\n
- cardiac incidents (cardiac arrest and myocardial infarction)<\/li>\n
- respiratory (pneumonia)<\/li>\n
- SSI (surgical site infections-superficial and deep incisional and organ-space SSIs)<\/li>\n
- urinary tract infection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
ACS NSQIP is the only nationally validated quality improvement program that measures and enhances the care of surgical patients. This program measures the actual surgical results 30 days postoperatively as well as risk adjusts patient characteristics to compensate for differences among patient populations and acuity levels. The goal of AC NSQIP is to reduce surgical morbidity (infection or illness related to a surgical procedure) and surgical mortality (death related to a surgical procedure) and to provide a firm foundation for surgeons to apply what is known as the “best scientific evidence” to the practice of surgery.<\/p>\n
