Heath for a lecture about working with at-risk youth through prevention programs. The event &#8220;Closing the Gateway to Crime: A Closer Look at Truancy Reduction Programs&#8221; takes place on Tuesday, October 27, 7-8:30 p.m., in the USF North Campus Auditorium, 2702 Spring Street. It is part of the USF Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences&#8217; Building a Better Community: Leaders in Social Justice series.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Judge Heath currently oversees the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center. His lecture discusses the implementation of three anti-truancy programs: Check and Connect, Bright Steps Literacy Program, and Evening Reporting. Attendees are encouraged to bring a book for children, newborn through two years old. The books will support the Bright Steps Literacy Program. Refreshments will follow Judge Heath&#8217;s presentation.<\/p>\n<p>The public is invited to attend and participate in this free lecture event. Continuing education credits are available for social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors who attend.
