\nRed Cross to educate residents on fire safety, install smoke detectors in Huntington on Oct. 3<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

HUNTINGTON, IN (September 29, 2015) \u00e2\u20ac\u201d In just one year, the American Red Cross’ nationwide Home Fire Campaign is credited with saving at least 26 lives. More than 63,000 families are safer thanks to the smoke alarms and safety education they received in their homes from Red Cross volunteers, firefighters and other community partners. And more than 311,000 children have learned to be safer in emergencies from Red Cross volunteers and apps.<\/p>\n

Staff and volunteers from the American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana and members of the Huntington Fire Department will canvas Huntington neighborhoods this Saturday, October 3 to educate people about fire safety and to install smoke alarms. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

WHO<\/strong>: The American Red Cross and the City of Huntington Fire Department<\/p>\n

WHAT<\/strong>: The American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana will canvas neighborhoods in Huntington talking to individuals and families about fire safety and installing free smoke detectors and new batteries. <\/p>\n

WHEN<\/strong>: Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

WHERE<\/strong>: We’ll meet at Yeoman Park, 900 Market Street in Huntington for orientation, then head out into local neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

WHY<\/strong>: People of all ages are vulnerable to home fires. During the course of this campaign, the lives saved nationwide included a two-month-old baby, a 73-year-old grandmother, and 11 members of an extended New Orleans family by new smoke alarms that the Red Cross and our partners installed. <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana serves an 11 county area that includes Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Miami, Steuben, Wabash, Wells and Whitley Counties in Indiana.<\/p>\n
