FWA awarded $12.8 million federal grant for airfield improvements<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(September 10, 2015) – Officials at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority are pleased to announce the receipt of an Airport Improvement Grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The $12,883,848 million grant will be used to rehabilitate the primary use runway at Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA). The project will cost an estimated $14.3 million.<\/p>\n

“Receiving this grant means the airport authority can make the airfield improvements necessary to continue providing safe, efficient facilities for all users,” said Scott Hinderman, executive director of airports.
\nRunway construction will begin in the spring of next year with an anticipated completion date of August 30, 2016. Flights at FWA will not be impacted by this project, as the airport’s second runway will remain open. The Harper Company is the prime contractor on the project.<\/p>\n

The FAA’s Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies – and in some cases, to private owners and entities – for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems. \nThe Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority was created in 1985 and is responsible for managing Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) and Smith Field Airport.
