{"id":5476,"date":"2009-07-07T20:07:51","date_gmt":"2009-07-08T00:07:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/?p=5476"},"modified":"2009-07-07T20:07:51","modified_gmt":"2009-07-08T00:07:51","slug":"midwest-high-speed-rail-association-e-mail-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/2009\/07\/07\/midwest-high-speed-rail-association-e-mail-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Midwest High Speed Rail Association e-mail update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/MHSRA.jpg\" alt=\"Screen capture of Midwest High Speed Rail Association\" \/><\/p>\n<p>An e-mail update from Rick Harnish at the Midwest High Speed Rail Assocation:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There are two interesting developments that I would like to update you on.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>First, I&#8217;m very excited to report that the Midwest High Speed Rail Association publicly released the first-ever feasibility study of a 220 mph high-speed line connecting St. Louis to Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>We did a series of press conferences in downstate cities last week.\u00c2\u00a0 It was exciting to see local leaders quickly grasp how high-speed trains will transform the Midwest economy.<\/p>\n<p>The study is available\u00c2\u00a0<span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"https:\/\/salsa.democracyinaction.org\/dia\/track.jsp?v=2&amp;c=ehSNAXSpfNU0P7Qwm1%2B%2F5xX6R0Ziw7%2BR\">here<\/span> and it shows that a 1 hour 52 minute trip between St. Louis and Chicago is feasible. The report is the first step in building the case for 220-mph lines connecting all the major cities in the Midwest.<\/p>\n<p>This is a big step.\u00c2\u00a0 Less than a year ago, 110-mph trains seemed like a distant goal.\u00c2\u00a0 Now, due to the leadership of President Obama, Senator Durbin, Governor Quinn and others 110-mph Amtrak trains will link Bloomington-Normal, IL, Madison, WI, St. Louis, MO, Springfield, IL, and other communities to Chicago in just a few short years.<\/p>\n<p>We are excited that the 110-mph projects are moving forward, but the longer lead time involved with 220-mph lines makes it urgent that we begin the planning right now.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the link to the study:\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"https:\/\/salsa.democracyinaction.org\/dia\/track.jsp?v=2&amp;c=KQKTDgajuqI%2B0v%2BAZNqLKI%2BDsr6%2BtgRz\">https:\/\/www.midwesthsr.org<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Second, the bipartisan leaders of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee have agreed to push for $50 billion for high-speed trains over the next six years!<\/p>\n<p>This is the biggest potential commitment to high-speed trains any congressional leader has ever made, and is large enough to finally develop the high-speed rail network our nation needs to help break our addiction to foreign oil and reinvigorate our economy by linking our cities together.<\/p>\n<p>You can read the proposal by Congressmen Jim Oberstar (D-MN), John Mica (R-FL), Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and John Duncan (R-TN) in the &#8220;In the Spotlight&#8221; section at:\u00c2\u00a0<span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"https:\/\/salsa.democracyinaction.org\/dia\/track.jsp?v=2&amp;c=DbrQdupzOumevPfAVoYGCRX6R0Ziw7%2BR\">https:\/\/Transportation.house.gov\/<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Please ask your two U.S. Senators and your Member of the House of Representatives to support the proposal to spend $50 billion on high-speed trains over the next six years by\u00c2\u00a0<span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"https:\/\/salsa.democracyinaction.org\/dia\/track.jsp?v=2&amp;c=qwrF3nJTPuonKM3CwB3%2FBBX6R0Ziw7%2BR\">clicking here<\/span>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Related Images:<\/h3>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An e-mail update from Rick Harnish at the Midwest High Speed Rail Assocation: There are two interesting developments that I would like to update you on.
