(August 12, 2015) – The TinCaps won their fourth straight game in a row Wednesday, 2-0, over the Quad Cities River Bandits at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne has won nine consecutive home games and 12 of 14 overall. <\/p>\n

Pete Kelich (W, 1-0), Taylor Cox, T.J. Weir, and Yimmi Brasoban (S, 8) combined for the TinCaps’ eighth shutout victory of the year. All eight have come since May 31. Over that time, Fort Wayne is tied with Quad Cities (29-16, 74-39) for the most shutouts in the Midwest League. <\/p>\n

Kelich, making his season debut with the TinCaps after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year, tossed five scoreless frames. The right-hander from New Jersey held the River Bandits to three hits and a walk, while striking out a pair. <\/p>\n

Fort Wayne (28-17, 60-53) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Dean Deetz (L, 1-1) walked Franchy Cordero with the bases loaded. It was one of three walks in the inning for the right-hander. Quad Cities also committed an error in the first.<\/p>\n

After Kelich came out, Cox went 1 2\/3 innings. In the seventh, he was helped by his defense. With runners at the corners and nobody out, first baseman Trae Santos fielded a safety-squeeze bunt by Jose Fernandez and shoveled it to the plate where Jose Ruiz tagged out Drew Ferguson. Cox then got Garrett Stubs to fly out before Ruiz picked off Fernandez at first base. <\/p>\n

Weir went 1 1\/3 innings to bridge the gap to Brasoban, who pitched a perfect ninth inning. The TinCaps’ bullpen has allowed only four earned runs over their last 14 games (0.82 ERA).<\/p>\n

The TinCaps added an insurance run in the eighth inning. Ruiz drew a walk and then advanced to third base on a two-out single by Josh VanMeter — his first hit with Fort Wayne since Opening Day. Shortstop Ruddy Giron followed with an opposite-field RBI single. <\/p>\n

VanMeter, who broke his left leg in the second game of the season, returned from the disabled list on Tuesday as a designated hitter. On Wednesday, he played second base. <\/p>\n

The TinCaps go for a sweep of the River Bandits on Thursday night at 7:05. Dinelson Lamet (3-5, 3.36) is set to start against Agapito Barrios (1-0, 0.00). The game can be seen on Comcast Network 81, and heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score<\/a>, and the TuneIn Radio app.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
