TinCaps rally late to beat the Peoria Chiefs, 6-4<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

PEORIA, Ill. (August 8, 2015) – The first-place TinCaps beat the Peoria Chiefs, 6-4, on Saturday night at Dozer Park. Fort Wayne overcame a 4-1 deficit after seven innings with four runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to end Peoria’s eight-game home-winning streak. <\/p>\n

Catcher Jose Ruiz hit a sacrifice fly to left-center field in the top of the eighth inning to cap a four-run frame for the TinCaps. Fort Wayne’s offense had been held in check for seven innings by left-hander Ian McKinney, but took advantage of Peoria’s bullpen. <\/p>\n

Jhonny Polanco (L, 3-4) walked center fielder Michael Gettys and left fielder <\/p>\n

Franchy Cordero back-to-back to begin the eighth. Shortstop Ruddy Giron then smacked a double to the left-field corner to plate Gettys. Right fielder Franmil Reyes followed with an RBI single to left to score Cordero and knock Polanco out of the game. <\/p>\n

With lefty Steve Sabatino on the mound, third baseman Luis Tejada hit an infield single to bring across Giron to tie the game. Reyes stole third base to move into position to score on Ruiz’s fly ball. <\/p>\n

Nick Monroe (W, 1-0) threw two perfect innings of relief after starter Ernesto Montas went the first five innings. Colby Blueberg (S, 15) spun the final two frames for the save. <\/p>\n

Fort Wayne (25-17, 57-53) had an early 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first. <\/p>\n

Peoria (28-14, 61-49), however, put up two runs in the third inning to go in front and added two in the second on a home run by Kenny Peoples-Walls. <\/p>\n

The TinCaps go into Sunday with a 1 1\/2-game lead on the West Michigan Whitecaps for first place in the Eastern Division with 28 games left in the regular season. <\/p>\n

Fort Wayne goes for a series victory at Peoria in the rubber match on Sunday evening at 6:00. Chris Huffman (6-6, 3.28) will get the ball for the TinCaps against lefty Dewin Perez (2-3, 7.90). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, Box Score<\/a>, and the TuneIn Radio app.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
