MIDLAND, Mich. (June 25, 2015) – The TinCaps opened the second half of their Midwest League schedule with a 13-inning, 4-1, win on the road over the Great Lakes Loons on Thursday night at Dow Diamond. With the victory, Fort Wayne extended its longest winning streak of the season to five games.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne (1-0, 33-36) broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the 13th inning with three runs — two of which were unearned. Right fielder Franmil Reyes hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly to score shortstop Ruddy Giron, who reached base on an error by his counterpart Cristian Gomez.<\/p>\n

Giron went from first to third base on an opposite-field single by left fielder Nick Torres. Bubby Rossman (L, 2-1) intentionally walked first baseman Trae Santos to load the bases, setting the table for Reyes, whose sac fly also advanced Torres and Santos. The TinCaps extended their lead to 3-1 when Rossman’s third strike to Franchy Cordero was a wild pitch that got away from the catcher Julian Leon allowing Torres to score and Santos to reach third base. Santos and Cordero then executed a double steal to make it 4-1.<\/p>\n

Great Lakes (0-1, 38-31) forced extra innings with an RBI single from Alex Santana to score Mike Ahmed with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the ninth inning.<\/p>\n

The TinCaps had led 1-0 until that point after a Michael Gettys home run in the top of the third. It was the fourth homer of the year for Fort Wayne’s 19-year-old center fielder.<\/p>\n

TinCaps pitchers struck out a season-high 16 batters in the win. Starter Dinelson Lamet, who worked five scoreless innings, fanned six. T.J. Weir (W, 3-2) struck out three over a scoreless 12th and 13th to earn the victory. In between, Yimmi Brasoban (two strikeouts), Kyle McGrath, and Bryan Verbitsky (three strikeouts) all threw shutout ball. For Colby Blueberg (two strikeouts), who pitched the ninth, his individual stretch of 9 2\/3 innings without allowing a run came to an end.<\/p>\n

During Fort Wayne’s five-game winning streak, the team has allowed only seven runs (six earned). The TinCaps have struck out 38 batters and walked just 12 over the span.<\/p>\n

Thursday’s game went 4 hours, 5 minutes. The TinCaps are now 5-2 in extra-inning games.<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne and Great Lakes play the second game of their four-game series on Friday night at 7:05. The TinCaps are scheduled to start right-hander Michael Kelly (3-1, 5.48) against Loons righty Trevor Oaks (3-5, 2.89).
