Friends of the Parks to Host Renowned Landscape Architect<\/strong>
\nEvent Focus is “Our Great Midwest Landscape”<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(June 3, 2015) – Riding the wave of community interest and engagement, the Friends of the Parks of Allen County is offering the public another opportunity to continue the conversation about the vision for Fort Wayne.<\/p>\n

With the theme “Our Great Midwest Landscape,” the free event is Tuesday, June 9, at the Arts United ArtsLab, 300 E. Main St., Fort Wayne, and features globally renowned landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh. His contemporary designs and artistry have created notable projects such as Maggie Daley Park in Chicago, Mill Race Park in Columbus, Ind., and Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York.<\/p>\n

Van Valkenburgh is known for capitalizing on local sensibilities in design, use and access for community engagement with the built and natural landscape. Attendees will be treated to a presentation of his work and have the chance to participate in a conversation about how Fort Wayne can continue to incorporate its unique personality in the design of our public places and spaces going forward into a new period of redevelopment.<\/p>\n

The event starts at 5 p.m. with refreshments by The Hoppy Gnome, followed by a performance by dAnce.Kontemporary at 6:15 and the presentation by Van Valkenburgh at 6:30. A brief Friends of the Parks business meeting will follow the public event.<\/p>\n

Event partners include Greater Fort Wayne, Inc., Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department, the American Institute of Architects, Arts United and The Hoppy Gnome.<\/p>\n
