Franchy Cordero goes deep in 1-run road loss<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

EASTLAKE, Ohio (May 20, 2015) – TinCaps leftfielder Franchy Cordero shined at the plate on Wednesday evening, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Lake County Captains, as Fort Wayne fell, 4-3. <\/p>\n

Cordero finished 3-for-3, recording his second three-hit game of the season. One of those hits was his second home fun of the season. <\/p>\n

The game got off to a blazing start on the mound. Neither TinCaps starter T.J. Weir nor Captains starter Thomas Pannone allowed a run through three innings. In fact, Weir was perfect heading into the fourth frame, but Claudio Bautista slugged a solo home run over the left-field wall to put Lake County (22-18) in front, 1-0. <\/p>\n

Later in the fifth, Fort Wayne (12-25) pulled in front. Franmil Reyes singled to start the inning and the next batter, Cordero, deposited a fastball from Pannone over the right-center field wall and the TinCaps took a 2-1 lead. <\/p>\n

The home team struck in the bottom half of the fifth, though. Captains hitters collected three hits and a walk in the frame and scored three more runs — all with two outs. <\/p>\n

The visitors cut the deficit back to just one run in the sixth. Ruddy Giron tripled down the right-field line, which set the table for Michael Gettys. The Gainesville, Georgia, native smacked a hard ground ball to second base that plated Giron. The score was 4-3 heading to the seventh. <\/p>\n

Fort Wayne went down quietly the rest of the way. The TinCaps had the heart of the order due up in the ninth inning, but were finished in order. <\/p>\n

There was solid pitching in the late stages on Wednesday evening. Relievers Bryan Verbitsky and Kyle McGrath combined to toss three scoreless innings. <\/p>\n

Weir (L, 2-1) was charged with three earned runs and the loss, while Pannone (W, 3-0) picked up his third win of the year.<\/p>\n

The final game of the four-game series is Thursday morning at 11 a.m. Manager Francisco Morales plans to start lefty Thomas Dorminy (3-3, 5.05) against right-hander Jordan Milbrath (2-4, 6.42).<\/p>\n
