News release from the Fort Wayne Police Department:<\/p>\n

Suicidal Suspect Standoff, 500 block of W. Essex Drive<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Date<\/strong>: Monday, May 18, 2015<\/p>\n

Location<\/strong>: W. Washington Center Road West of Coldwater Road<\/p>\n

Time<\/strong>: Approximately 2:05 p.m.<\/p>\n

Suspect<\/strong>: Adult Male<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne police responded to the 500 block of W. Essex Drive on the report of a domestic disturbance with a male armed with a firearm. Once on scene it was learned that the male had threaten to kill himself as a result of a recent breakup with his girlfriend.<\/p>\n

Officers also learned that the suspect had left the scene in a red in color sport utility vehicle prior to their arrival. As officer were investigating the incident calls came in reporting a reckless driver westbound on Washington Center Road involving a red sport utility vehicle.<\/p>\n

Responding to that area, officers observed the suspect’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. Once stopped, the suspect refused to exit his vehicle. Knowing that he was armed and potentially suicidal officers cordoned off the area stopping traffic on Washington Center Road and requested the departments EST and HRT Teams to the scene.
\nAfter speaking with the suspect he peacefully surrendered to officers without incident. <\/p>\n

Washington Center Road was shut down for approximately one hour during the standoff and business in the immediate area were required to shelter in place. Charges and or arrest are pending at this time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
