Boyer.<\/p>\n<p>Hartzler, 39, is currently an attorney with the law firm of Van Gilder &amp; Trzynka. She previously served as Chief Legal Counsel for the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) in Allen County. <\/p>\n<p>She is a 1999 graduate of Indiana University and a 2002 graduate of the Valparaiso School of Law. Hartzler was admitted to the Indiana Bar in May 2003.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sherry brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding to a job that will demand both from her first day on the bench,&#8221; said Judge Charles F. Pratt. &#8220;This division hears complex cases that impact families and children in matters arising from divorce, adoption, and child maltreatment.    Sherry has a background and has gained the respect of practicing attorneys in each of these distinct areas of family law.  She will be a tremendous asset not only to the court, but to the families we serve.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hartzler succeeds Thomas Boyer, who became a Magistrate in Superior Court&#8217;s Small Claims Division on April 27. Her first day as Magistrate has yet to be determined. Hartzler was among 15 candidates who were interviewed for the position. <\/p>\n<p>In private practice and in her previous role with DCS, Hartzler gained valuable experience in domestic relations and Children In Need of Services (CHINS) cases that dominate the calendar of a Family Relations Division Magistrate.
