{"id":5048,"date":"2009-06-21T03:27:43","date_gmt":"2009-06-21T07:27:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/?p=5048"},"modified":"2009-06-21T03:27:43","modified_gmt":"2009-06-21T07:27:43","slug":"new-life-at-505-e-washington","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/2009\/06\/21\/new-life-at-505-e-washington\/","title":{"rendered":"New life at 505 E Washington"},"content":{"rendered":"ngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n<p>A few weeks ago, a tax abatement received approval by the Fort Wayne City Council for this building.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This building was, among other things, the former BioLife facility for downtown. \u00c2\u00a0If you remember the past for this building, please chime in and share with us the past lives for this buiding.<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_1_placeholder\n<p>The building, when renovations are completed, will appear thus:<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_2_placeholder\n<p>The rendering received much acclaim from the City Council members and I would add my two cents worth as well, that the building will be a welcomed addition to that area of downtown. \u00c2\u00a0The area is seeing a slow return to vitality with the rehab of the Schiefer Building, aka Woodson Motor Sports and which used to house a Taxi Company and transportation company as well, La Hartz which underwent a face lift a couple of years back and a block north, the law offices. \u00c2\u00a0There are a few other projects in the early planning stages as well in the area, which will be explored in a future post.<\/p>\n<p>The email I was sent with the above rendering, also attested to the firm&#8217;s (Rothberg, Logan &amp; Warsco, Attorneys at Law, LLP) excitement over the project. \u00c2\u00a0They are currently housed inside the National City Center where they have leased space. \u00c2\u00a0Taking on this project in a vacant building earned them an extra tax abatement which has been rarely used. \u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;d say an abatement well deserved! \u00c2\u00a0Congratulations to the firm!<\/p>\n<p>I stopped by the building last Wednesday, June 17th, and work has already begun:<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_3_placeholder\n<p>You might notice some of the brick uncovered looks suspiciously like other brick used on surrounding buildings. \u00c2\u00a0Of course, you can&#8217;t see it any more on Woodson with the addition of their metal facade, so I&#8217;ll remind you what that building looked like before Woodsons came along:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a title=\"Scheifer building, now Woodson Motor Sports.  Photo taken October 28, 2005.\" rel=\"lightbox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/9525.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aroundfortwayne.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/t9525.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Not that there&#8217;s anything wrong with what Woodson&#8217;s has done with the buidling. \u00c2\u00a0It bothered a lot of people that after all the money had been spent to sandblast the brick and really shape the building up, a metal facade was applied destroying the character of the building.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a title=\"Woodson Motor Sports.
