City Utilities Offers Free Tours During River Summit<\/strong>
\nResidents Can Visit Camp Scott and Water Filtration Plant<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

(April 7, 2015) – City Utilities staff members and facilities will be an integral part of this week’s River Summit hosted by the Tri-State Watershed Alliance. <\/p>\n

As part of the event, City Utilities is opening the Camp Scott Wetlands to River Summit attendees. The event will be open to the general public as well. The free guided tours take place at 1:30 PM and again at 3:30 PM on Wednesday April 8, 2015 at Camp Scott, 3615 Oxford Street.<\/p>\n

The Camp Scott Wetlands were constructed to store and treat stormwater runoff on the City’s southeast side. The stormwater from several neighborhoods around McMillen Park goes to a massive storage tank at the park and is then pumped to the wetlands. The wetlands also provide a natural habitat for song birds, water birds and other animals.<\/p>\n

As a River Summit event on Saturday, April 11, 2015, from 10 AM to 2 PM, City Utilities will open the Three Rivers Water Filtration Plant for tours. Residents should enter the grounds at 500 Baltes Avenue, just off Spy Run Avenue. There is a parking lot near Spy Run and parking closer to the building as well. Staff members will offer free guided tours. <\/p>\n

The Filtration Plant, opened in 1933, is an architectural landmark designed in the Collegiate Gothic style. <\/p>\n

Today the plant features a state-of-the-art UV disinfection system and is capable of producing 72 million gallons of drinking water each day.<\/p>\n

Both of the tour events are free to the public. <\/p>\n

Additionally, City staff members will lead workshops for the paying attendees of the River Summit on the topics of the Long Term Control Plan – Deep Rock Tunnel, Urban Water Quality, Riverfront Revitalization and Riverfront Recreational Opportunities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
